Questions And Answers
TEFL stands for: Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
You may have also heard of TESOL (Teaching English as a second language) or ESL (English as a second language).
As there is no global standard for the training of English language teachers, instead of focusing on the differences between these acronyms look at the content and components of the course to choose a course that will equip you to teach English anywhere you choose.
Most employees require you to have a 120 hour TEFL certificate.
TEACHME TEFL is a comprehensive course designed by teachers for teachers, to teach you not only what to teach but HOW to teach.
Many TEFL courses include numerous units on grammar and academic components of the English language. While this is important to know, as a native speaker you have already ‘studied’ English for decades!
TEACHME TEFL includes the most important grammar and language components. However, instead of pages and pages of information TEACHME TEFL uses examples, exercises and real life scenarios to enable to you to not only gain the knowledge needed to teach English but also the skills to do so.
Upon completion of TEACHME TEFL you will have the knowledge and skills to step into any classroom or login online and teach with confidence.
You will have six months to complete the course.
The course is designed so that it will not take you longer than six months to complete, most students can complete the course in two to three months.
Also if you find that you do need more time to complete the course, there are extension options available.
TEACHME TEFL consists of short quizzes, assessments and a final essay or lesson plan submission.
You will need to complete each lesson in order. At the end of a topic there is a short quiz, upon passing the quiz the next topic will be released.
At the end of each lesson there is an assessment that utilises a variety of questions to assess your knowledge and skills of the unit. The assessment questions include:
- Multiple choice
- True and False
- Matching items
- Ordering items
- Filling in the blank
- Multiple answers
This variety of assessment questions keeps the course interesting and fun while ensuring active application of the skills and knowledge taught in each lesson.
After you have completed all lessons and topics you will have a final written assessment that you will be able to upload to your course progress page.
All assessments are designed to not only assess your knowledge but your practical application of what you have learnt.
Sadly we are not all perfect, even though we may like to think we are!
TEACHME TEFL only require teachers to maintain a 75% pass rate.
If a teacher is falling below the pass rate, the team at TEACHME TEFL will notify the teacher and provide guidance on how to improve.
Everything you need is included in the course.
You will not need any additional resources, in fact as you complete the course you will start to build your own resource library so you will be equiped to step right into the classroom and start teaching.
After successful completion of your course you will be issued with a certificate and transcript.
An electronic version of your certificate will be emailed to you.
Also if required a hard copy of your certificate can be sent to you.
The requirement to teach English overseas or online is: 120 hour TEFL Certificate.
Upon successful completion of TEACHME TEFL you will be issued a 120 hour TEFL Certificate.
Not at all, there are many countries around the world that employee teachers with a 120 hour TEFL certificate and no university degree.
It is important to remember that, a degree does not equate to experience in teaching. Some teachers may have a degree in Commerce but have never taught a day in their life. On the other hand, you may have been an educator for many years without formal training. Employees will look at your experience and prior skills and knowledge not just your qualifications.
However some countries do require a degree, so make sure you do your research before deciding on a country to teach in.
Remember don’t let your formal education or lack there of, stop you from teaching! Some teachers don’t hold a degree but their love of teaching and invaluable skills they have obtained from teaching overseas has meant they are now some of the best TEFL teachers available.
TEACHME TEFL provides you with the education you need to start your overseas teaching career.
Many are surprised to learn, the answer is no, in fact employees prefer that you are not able to speak the language so then your classroom becomes a total English immersion for the students.
Of course, when living in a foreign country you may want to learn some of the language so that you are able to get around and live easily.
Also some schools, even online schools, provide free training for their teachers to learn the basics of the language of the country.
The answer is most definitely YES!
As a native English speaker, you have been working on English your entire life.
Your experience of living, working and studying in an English language environment provides invaluable experience, this is what your employee is looking for even if you have no prior teaching experience.
Don’t forget many TEFL teachers had no prior experience before starting their international teaching career.
